Mobile Package Prices Jump Up to 22 Percent in a Year, but PTA Pushes Back on Monthly Hike Claims

Mobile phone users in Pakistan paid noticeably more for calls and internet over the past year, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Selected packages from Jazz, Ufone, Zong and Telenor recorded price increases ranging from 12% to 22% between June 2025 and June 2026, adding to the monthly burden on consumers who depend on mobile services for work, education, digital payments and entertainment.

The numbers have fuelled debate about how often operators raise prices. PTA has rejected claims that companies are pushing package rates up by 10% to 20% every month. According to the regulator, the annual increases spread out to an average monthly rise of around 1% to 2%.

PTA says it keeps a close watch on telecom tariffs and can step in if pricing starts to harm consumers. The regulator also notes that mobile packages have become essential for daily life, supporting online communication, remote work, digital payments and access to information.

For now, the message for consumers is practical: compare available packages and pick the plan that offers the best value for actual usage. Operators may keep adjusting prices in line with costs and market conditions, while PTA says its monitoring will continue as connectivity becomes an ever larger part of household spending.
