DeafTawk Wins P@SHA ICT Award Ahead of AI Product Launch in the United States

DeafTawk, the Pakistani tech startup working to make communication accessible for the deaf community worldwide, has won fresh recognition at home. The company took the Community Services Inclusion and Community award at the HBL P@SHA ICT Awards 2023, organised by the Pakistan IT Industry Association to celebrate indigenous technology innovation. The timing matters. DeafTawk is preparing to launch DT360, a new AI product aimed at bringing inclusivity to industries including travel and tourism, content creation, banking, telecom and web accessibility, with the United States as the launch market. Ali Mehdi, the company's chief financial officer, said the award shows the Pakistani tech industry values DeafTawk's journey from its beginnings in the country, and that it strengthens the team's resolve ahead of the launch. Founded in Pakistan in 2018 and now headquartered in Singapore, DeafTawk connects deaf users with qualified sign language interpreters online, while also offering on premises and content interpretation services. It has extended operations to Sri Lanka, Denmark and Puerto Rico, with further expansion planned across Singapore, Europe and the United States. Chief executive Ali Shabbar credited Mehdi with shaping the company's investment and growth decisions and expanding its footprint into new markets.
