GTA V Spotted Running Inside Google Chrome With No Install and No Cloud

Grand Theft Auto V has reportedly been made playable directly inside Google Chrome, with no full game installation and no cloud gaming service involved. An unofficial project surfaced online on October 6, 2026, accompanied by videos showing the Rockstar Games title running in a web browser on a Mac powered by Apple's M3 Pro chip.

Players reportedly needed to load around 700 MB of game data before play could begin, with additional data streaming in as the game continued. The project relied on WebAssembly, a technology that allows programs to run inside web browsers.

The setup differs from cloud gaming. In cloud gaming, the game runs on a remote server and is streamed to the player's device. In this case, the game was reportedly running on the user's own computer through Chrome.

The browser version did not stay online for long. The website was taken down a few hours after it appeared. Reports suggested that copyright issues may have prompted the removal, although neither Rockstar Games nor Take Two Interactive officially confirmed the reason. The brief appearance has nevertheless sparked discussion about how far browser based gaming can go when modern hardware and web technologies combine.
