Punjab Courts Global Capital in Shanghai With a Fifty Million Dollar Startup Fund

Punjab took its investment pitch to Shanghai on December 12, 2024, where the Punjab Investment Conference drew a slate of funding pledges and partnership deals. Hosted by the venture capital firm Gobi Partners, the event was framed as a showcase of the province's push for innovation, sustainable development and global collaboration. The headline announcement was a dedicated fifty million dollar investment fund from Gobi Partners, the first of its kind for Punjab. The fund will back the entrepreneurial ecosystem with an emphasis on technology startups, aiming to steer the province toward a sustainable and digital economy and to position it as a regional leader in technology and entrepreneurship. Conference speakers also promoted Punjab's investment incentives, arguing they beat regional and global benchmarks. Tax benefits, dedicated industrial zones and streamlined government facilitation were presented as the province's main draws. Three memorandums of understanding were signed on the sidelines. Gobi Partners and the Bank of Punjab agreed to support startups and small and medium enterprises through debt financing, equity investment, tailored financial products and mentorship. Chinese firm Solar N Plus signed with the Punjab government to advance green energy projects, including a possible local facility, feasibility studies and new solar technology. The Tianjin Capital Environmental Protection Group agreed to work on waste management, water treatment, localized environmental machinery and pollution control in cities such as Lahore. Provincial leaders closed the event by inviting global enterprises to explore opportunities in Punjab.
