Zong Switches On 5G in More Than 16 Cities Across Pakistan

Zong has switched on 5G services in more than 16 cities across Pakistan after securing spectrum in the recent auction, marking a major step in the country's journey toward faster mobile connectivity.

The first phase covers major urban centres including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta. Customers in these cities are among the first to experience the new technology, with faster internet speeds and stronger network performance.

Zong says it will build on this start by installing more than 1,000 5G sites across the country during 2026. The expansion is meant to widen coverage and bring fast internet to more users in cities and smaller towns alike.

The launch follows years of preparation. Zong began early 5G trials back in 2019 and recorded speeds of more than 1.4Gbps, work that helped the company prepare for a full commercial rollout.

The arrival of 5G is expected to lift digital services across the board, from smoother streaming and faster downloads to more reliable connections for businesses. It should also support new technologies such as smart cities, online education and digital healthcare, giving Pakistan's digital economy a powerful new engine.
