Telenor Pakistan Merges Into Ufone in Historic Telecom Deal Approved by Islamabad High Court

Telenor Pakistan has officially merged with Pak Telecom Mobile Limited, better known as Ufone, in one of the biggest deals in the history of Pakistan's telecom sector. The Islamabad High Court granted final approval, closing a long process of regulatory scrutiny. Telenor Pakistan no longer exists as a separate company; its operations, customers and network are now part of PTML, a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL.

The combined operator holds about 35 to 36 percent of the market, making it the second largest mobile company in the country after Jazz. It serves more than 70 million subscribers and controls a larger pool of spectrum, which should support better services and a future 5G rollout.

The merger is expected to improve network quality, widen coverage and unlock fresh investment in digital infrastructure. Customers could see better call quality, faster data and new services in the coming months. It also reduces the number of major mobile operators from four to three, which analysts say could produce healthier competition and more innovation.

PTCL, which is backed by the UAE's e& group, aims to use this scale to reshape the telecom landscape. Experts believe subscribers stand to gain from stronger technology and higher service standards as the new company takes shape.
