Pakistan's 5G journey took a decisive step forward as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority formally issued 5G licenses to Jazz, Zong and Ufone. The operators can now move ahead with preparations to launch next generation services.
The licenses were handed over at an official ceremony at the Prime Minister's House. Federal IT Minister Shiza Fatima Khawaja, PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman and senior executives from the telecom industry attended the event, where company representatives received their licenses after completing the required legal and financial steps.
As part of the process, the operators submitted bank guarantees to meet the licensing conditions set by PTA. The licenses were then signed by PTA authorities, confirming that the companies are cleared to proceed.
The development follows a 5G spectrum auction that raised around $510 million for the government, a key boost for public finances and telecom infrastructure. Officials say 5G will launch first in major cities, while upgrades to existing 4G networks will continue in parallel so users see better speed and connectivity nationwide.
Experts believe 5G will transform internet performance, unlock new digital services and help Pakistan keep pace with global technology trends.
