Peshawar High Court Flags Education Crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Peshawar High Court has indicated an education crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a judicial observation that puts the province's schooling system under an uncomfortable spotlight.

When a high court reaches for the word crisis, it reflects a record that has become impossible to ignore. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's education sector has faced compounding pressures: security disruptions that close schools and postpone exams, chronic underfunding, teacher shortages in remote districts, and learning outcomes that lag behind the country's better performing provinces. A court's observation does not create these problems, but it certifies their severity.

The timing sharpens the point. With matric examinations already postponed across several KP boards this month amid protests and suspended mobile services, the system is visibly straining. Each disruption, a closed school here, a postponed paper there, compounds into lost learning that the province's poorest students can least afford. The crisis the court indicates is not a single event but an accumulation.

Judicial attention can be a catalyst. Courts in Pakistan have previously pushed education departments toward action on missing facilities, ghost schools and out of school children, using the authority of the bench where administrative will fell short. Whether this observation converts into orders, monitoring or reform will determine whether it matters beyond the headline.

For KP's students, the hope is that the court's words mark a turning point rather than a epitaph. An education crisis acknowledged is a crisis that can be addressed. The province's children are waiting for the address.
